GAME OF THE WEEK: #3 MERRITT ISLAND(4-2) vs #4 TITUSVILLE(3-4)

Mustangs vs. Terriers: District Clash with Playoff Stakes: As of mid‑October 2025, the Merritt Island Mustangs hold a 4‑2 overall record and sit 1–0 in 3A District 8 play. Meanwhile, Titusville Terriers are struggling to stay afloat in the playoff race with a 3‑4 record and 0–1 in district competition after falling to Eau Gallie.
Against that backdrop, all eyes will be on Kevin Verpaele (Merritt Island), who has torched opposing defenses so far this season. His passing performances have drawn heavy praise, and he’s already turned in multiple high-yardage games this year. As the district race tightens, this showdown will come down to the impact of a few core players on both sides. Let’s dig into the guys who can swing the momentum.

Merritt Island Mustangs — Impact Players:

Kevin Verpaele (Jr., QB) Passing Yards (season total): ~ 1551yds 16TD 4INT. Verpaele has completed 104/165(63%) with a 116 Quarterback rating. He is currently on a roll, and any team that thinks it can slow him down is in for a rude awakening. Verpaele is hitting his stride — throwing with confidence, stretching defenses, and making big plays when it matters most. In his most recent outing, he dropped 336 passing yards and 5 touchdown passes, guiding the Mustangs to a shootout victory. His command of the offense is obvious — he reads defenses on the fly, manipulates coverages, and delivers when the game is on the line. He’s doing so with surgical precision and composure. His completion tally (104) against just 4 interceptions shows the kind of decision-making you want in your signal-caller. As he consistently leads Merritt Island into high-scoring territory, he’s become the kind of player that defenses game-plan for — and so far, few have been able to contain him. When Kevin’s on, he’s a problem. And right now, he’s on! Defenses hoping to knock him off will have to bring more than blitzes — they’ll need a blueprint.

Alain Adams (Jr., RB / MLB) Rushing Yards (season total): ~ 84car 399 yds 7TD, Adams has been the go-to on the ground, punching through defenses and also helping anchor the middle on defense.

Donterrius Robinson Jr. (Sr., WR / FS) Receiving Yards (season total): ~ 481 yds 6TD, Robinson is Merritt Island’s deep threat and safety blanket in the passing game — when they need a big play, he’s a focal point. If he is healthy….watch out for a huge game!!

Jarvis Howell (Sr., MLB / OLB) Tackles (season total): ~ 80 tackles Sacks: 1.0, When Titusville tries to run inside, Howell will be looking to sniff out the play and take control of the trenches.

Deshaun Thomas (Jr., TE / WR) Receiving Yards (season total): ~ 338 yds 8TD, His flexibility—slot, tight end, motion—gives Merritt Island matchup options and complicates defensive assignments. He will also line up in the wildcat in short yardage situations and bully his way for a firstdown or in the endzone.

Titusville Terriers — Impact Players:

Finding full, current season totals was more challenging for Titusville, but these are the standout performers based on available data and film.

Tank Harvey(Jr ATH)— The Rising X-Factor Elijah “Tank” Harvey, has already caught attention around Brevard County as someone who doesn’t need the stat sheet to back up his hype. Standing 6’1” 185lbs, he brings the kind of versatility and playmaking instinct that makes defenses uneasy. Tank is the star player coaches dream off and the one who gives opposing coaches nightmares. He can do it all and will need to do it all if they stand any chance of defeating the Mustangs.

Camari Jackson (Sr., RB) Though current season totals weren’t fully published, Jackson remains the Terriers’ centerpiece on the ground and in space. He also contributes in the passing game, stretching defenses.

William Billingsley (Sr., QB) While his full passing stat line was not available, he contributes as a dual-threat quarterback, adding around 22 rushing yards per game. His ability to run the ball gives Titusville another ground dimension.

Key factors in the matchup:

Explosive passing vs. physical run game — Merritt Island will test Titusville’s secondary early and often; Titusville will need to dominate the line of scrimmage to keep the game manageable. If Verpaele and the Mustangs limit mistakes, that edge could be decisive. Titusville will aim to slow things down and keep momentum on the ground; Merritt Island will fight to keep pace high and force the Terriers into uncomfortable situations. Titusville, on the other hand, has relied more heavily on a ground attack. Their passing game has been more modest by comparison.

Prediction: Given the disparity in records, the offensive firepower Merritt Island brings, and the momentum they enjoy in district play, the Mustangs are my pick in this one. Expect Titusville to battle hard and stay within striking distance early, but Merritt Island’s passing attack should eventually pull away. Final Score Prediction: Merritt Island 35, Titusville 28
